DiscSox Information1. What are the SoxChest's outside dimensions?

The SoxChest's dimensions are30 1/4" x 20 1/8" x 17 1/4" (height x width x depth).

2. What are the drawer's inside dimensions?

The drawers are 14" deep, 16 5/8" wide and the side walls and dividers are 4 1/4" high. The drawer is divided into 3 rows, each 5 1/2" wide. The overall depth of the drawer is 8 1/4" which makes it compatible with DVDs and VHS tapes.

DiscSox Information3. What is the SoxChest made of?

The SoxChests are made out of veneer sheet goods (plywood) and hardwoods. The sides, top panel and drawer fronts are cut from veneer sheet goods and all the corners and drawer pulls are made form solid oak.
The cabinet is assembled by hand using glue blocks and dowels. The reason we do not make the SoxChests entirely out of solid oak is because of the tendency for solid oak to split, warp and crack. This does not happen with sheet goods. Your SoxChest looks like solid oak but doesn't act like it.

4. Do I have to assemble the SoxChest?

No! All the structural parts of the SoxChest are fully assembled.
Once the SoxChest is out of the shipping box all you have to do, is attach the handles with two screws each, insert two dividers in each drawer and place the ChestStoppers at the end of each row in the drawers.

DiscSox Information5. Can I stack SoxChests?

The SoxChests are stackable and are held tight by placing Velcro dots on all four corners that are touching each other. The dots keep the top cabinet from sliding off the bottom one and protect the top surface of the bottom cabinet. If you decide to separate your stack someday you will notice that the dots may leave a residue on the top of your bottom cabinet. Wiping the area with a clean cloth and some drops of mineral spirits will remove the residue without harming the finish.
We recommend using 4 pairs of 3/4" velcro dots that you can pick up at the hardware store.

6. How do the drawers work?

The drawers glide open on full extension metal ball bearing drawer slides. The drawer slides are rated at 75 lbs. per pair and a drawer full of DiscSox weighs about 40-50 lbs. Full extension drawers provide the same instant easy access to DiscSox regardless whether they are located in the back or in the front of the drawer.

The entire drawer bottom is lined with a very low pile velcro® type material (the fuzzy side of velcro) and all wooden parts of the drawers are finished in the same fashion as the outside of the SoxChest.

The SoxChest will not tip over if you have a drawer full of DiscSox and you fully extend one drawer. However, to ensure stability we recommend you load the drawers evenly. This will ensure that the cabinet doesn't tip forward when you fully extend a loaded drawer (there will be enough weight in the other drawers to keep the SoxChest stable).SoxChest

DiscSox Information7. What about the finish?

Our standard stained finish is a hand rubbed oil finish in a Natural, Medium or Dark color. The stain we use has some natural sealers in it and requires that every-once-in-a-while when you are dusting you apply a lemon based furniture polish to keep your SoxChest looking shiny.
Our Natural is a clear oil stain and makes the oak look a little yellowish-blond like natural oak floors.
Our Medium color is a medium walnut stain and is a mid-tone brown (this is our most popular color). Our Dark finish is a dark walnut finish and makes the grain very dark.
Our Black finish is not thick like a piano black finish, but rather a black finish in which you can see the pattern of the grain. First the SoxChest is sealed, then painted black lacquer and then clear lacquer over the top. That is why it costs more than the stained models.

8. Can I get a clear lacquer finish for the Natural, Medium or Dark stain?

For an extra charge of $40 (see SoxChest) we will be happy to apply a lacquer finish to any stained SoxChest, or Caster Base you order.

DiscSox Information9. How much are the shipping costs?

Because the SoxChest is heavy (over 80lbs), shipping can go over $50 depending on selected options and destination.

DiscSox Information10. How does the back of the SoxChest look like?

The standard back of the SoxChest is a brown Masonite®-like material and is intended to be placed up against a wall or another piece of furniture.
The Oak Back is necessary if you intend to place your SoxChest where the back will be seen.
The Oak Back is available in all finishes at no extra cost.

11. Does the Caster Base support two stacked SoxChests?

The caster base can support two chests as long as the rating of 100 lbs per caster is not exceeded.
We strongly recommend using lockable drawers in conjunction with casters. Moving the chest on casters may cause unlocked drawers to open unexpectedly which may most likely tip the chest over.

DiscSox Information12. How do the locks look like?

The locks are available on a per drawer bases and are cam lock types.

ChestStopper

Note that an antique brass finish lock (as shown here) will be shipped with the wood and antique brass drawer pulls and a lock with a nickel finish will ship with all other drawer pulls.

When muliple locks for the same cabinet are ordered, then they are keyed the same. If you require different keys for each drawer, this can be specified via a dropdown menu on the order page.

We strongly recommend using drawers with locks in conjunction with casters. Moving the chest on casters may cause unlocked drawers to open unexpectedly which may most likely tip the chest over.

13. Do I need a ChestStopper for every row? DiscSox Information

ChestStopper

No, the ChestStoppers are only needed when a row is not completely filled up. The ChestStoppers allow the sleeves to be accessed from the front of the drawer and hold them at an angle for easy flip through.

When a row is completely filled up the removable angled back holds the sleeves at an 125° angle for easy viewing.
